Refined Beach and Boat Party Style Wedding at Lansdowne Resort

It’s rare for us to have event planners as clients but in this case, our bride plans trade shows for a living. With her job’s constant travel demands, she really need a wedding planner to focus on getting her wedding planning tasks done. We had a fun time designing their wedding at Lansdowne Resort in Leesburg, Virginia to reflect their love of boating and for their cats. Carina Herman of LBC Design Co created an wedding logo that depicted a boat anchor with the name of their boat on it, flanked by an illustration of their two cats. All photos by Stephen Gosling

An Aquarium Inspired Wedding at the Strathmore Music Center

I do love it when I meet future clients at a wedding. A few years ago at a wedding in Silver Spring, I met this couple. They reached out to me a year later and the rest is history. The couple’s interests were weaved into the wedding throughout. The overarching inspiration came from their love for aquariums. Enjoy the stunning images by David Hartcorn of Hartcorn Studios. Enjoy – Vicky

Post-Elopement Celebration at the Newseum

Our clients wanted to elope. They also wanted to celebrate a bit with their friends and family. So they did both! We had a blast planning and designing this celebration. We didn’t even call it a wedding.

Our clients wanted a cocktail style reception with no formal seating and not too much structure to the evening in general. With a combination of low cocktail tables, hightops, sofas, bar tables and long kings tables, we were able to provide sufficient seating without using traditional round tables (check out the floorplan below). We also organized an LED screen rental you can see in the picture below for the rolling display of their elopement photos. We had two rooms to work with and so one room became a more relaxing lounge space while the other had a more upbeat feel with the bar and the dance floor.

From a design perspective, our couple wanted a warm feel with elements inspired by nature, mixed with rich jewel tone colors and a splash of Indian inspired motifs to honor the bride’s heritage. Variety was the name of the game when it came to the food and beverage options. At the bar, guests could choose from 4 signature cocktails, 5 craft beers, 2 scotches, in addition to standard beverage options. They served a delicious selection of passed hors d’oeuvres and desserts, as well as savory stations.

All photos by Amber Wilkie unless otherwise stated. Enjoy! Vicky

In one room, we created an intimate lounge with comfortable leather sofas and wood coffee tables from AFR, below the slideshow of photo from the couple’s elopement. I also loved the lighting gobo the lighting designer at the Newseum found for us to inject a bit of an Indian flavor. Photo: Vicky Choy

Details from an Epic 50th Birthday Party at the Newseum

To pull off a surprise 50th birthday party for her husband was no easy feat. Our client came up with a semi fictitious event for the two of them to attend. The birthday boy had no clue and his reaction upon seeing his family and high school and college friends from afar was priceless and is why I love my job!

As a guy who loves fishing and beer, we incorporated these interests into various components of the party. Little Bird Creative helped up design a logo for the party and my favorite item were the custom growler labels we used in the centerpieces (yes I actually already owned all the growlers in the centerpieces.) We designed a menu that was reflective of his life: a “Taste of Cape Cod” station reminiscent of their summer vacations, a “Pan Asian” station because he loves Asian food, and a “Beer and Brats” cart. Each station had a beer pairing. During cocktail hour, guests nibbled on charcuterie boards.

Thank you to Stephen Gosling for capturing my work! All photos are by Stephen unless otherwise state. — Vicky

A Backyard-Style Picnic at Arlington’s Hendry House

We shared a sneak peek photo of this casual Hendry House wedding last week. Here is the rest of the recap. After I first met with this couple and found out their wedding was to be held at Hendry House, I set out to secretly plan an all-Arlington wedding. Being an Arlington based business ourselves, I believe it supporting local small businesses. However, I didn’t want my desire to influence my client’s decisions. Ultimately, I thought we did pretty well and were able use quite a few professionals from Arlington. Enjoy all the bright and cheerful colors of this wedding! — Vicky

Latin Infused Modern Wedding in Silver Spring, Maryland

I know the Sneak Peek was eons ago so forgive me. To personalize their wedding, Natalie and Peter incorporated their interests throughout but particularly in the food and in the music for the evening. Enjoy! — Vicky

Design. Natalie is a pharmacist so she designed these prescription pads for guests to write down their secrets to marriage. Pill bottles of M&Ms served as escort cards and favors. All of these popped against a vibrate and modern palette of fuchsia and blue.

Music. Peter and Natalie know how to Salsa so that’s what they did for their first dance to the tune of Fuerza de Voluntad by Lesly Daily. Other songs played during the evening included Stand by Me (Spanish version by Prince Royce) and Quando Quando Quando by Michael Buble & Nelly Furtado. So much fun to see and hear songs that just make you want to dance yourself!

Food. Main Event Caterers designed a mouth-watering Latin inspired menu.  For hors d’oeuvres, guests sampled Chicken Tamale Fritters, Yucca Beignets, Grilled Tiger Prawn and Papaya, Honey Roasted Lamb and Peruvian Ceviche. For the buffet, also reflected latin flavors with Lomo Saltado (Peruvian style beef tenderloin), Tequila Braised Chicken Thighs, Salmon Escabeche, Quinoa Cakes, Calabacitas, and Grilled Brazilian Flatbreads with a rustic salsa verde. To finish, the dessert featured Graham Crusted Lime Curd, Pastel de Tres Leches, Cafe Dulce, and Flan.

Cheerful Details from Washington DC Winter Wedding

Who said winter weddings have to be in darker colors or in winter whites and tones? One of our couples from last winter chose sunny orange along with a medium blue mixed in with some lime green and a pop of creamy white for their color scheme. So refreshing and I hope it brightens this rainy day! — Vicky
