Backyard Micro Wedding in Virginia

These college sweethearts had planned a big Indian / Sikh fusion wedding for Fall 2020, with an outdoor Sikh wedding ceremony, followed by a glamorous modern reception for 300 guests. Little did we know that the Coronavirus would force us to revisit their wedding plans. With much uncertainty around how long Covid-19 would affect social gatherings and travel, our clients chose to host a micro wedding in the backyard of the groom’s father’s home in Purcellville, Virginia so that they could be legally married on their wedding date. For a safer celebration during the Coronavirus pandemic, they invited only their immediate family members and close friends; and requested guests follow safety protocols before and during the wedding. Our clients held their wedding ceremony surrounded by an apple orchard on the property, which gave the ceremony an intimate feeling.

What I love about micro weddings like these is that I actually have time to stop and listen to our client’s wedding vows. These two wrote eloquently about what they love about each other and their words were heartfelt and meaningful.

J Morris Flowers designed a loose, organic bridal bouquet inspired by the fall with red and yellow flowers like roses, dahlias, and yarrow, intermixed with foliage in greens and burgundy.

These last minute centerpieces worked really well on these wood farm tables. We used seasonal white pumpkins, foliage foraged from our client’s property, mixed with some lanterns and votives.

For guests’ health and safety, they each received hand sanitizers that they could use throughout the event.

Micro weddings doesn’t mean small in style or hospitality. Guests got to use and take home these koozies.

Guests sat physically distant and with their quarantine pods.

At Home Micro Wedding Great Falls Virginia

On the same date and at the same location 10 years earlier, I had planned our bride’s sister’s Indian fusion wedding. I was honored that they called me to help with planning another sibling’s wedding. Held in the backyard of the bride’s childhood home in Great Falls, Virginia, our couple decided to host a micro / mini wedding ceremony and reception. In order to have a safe celebration during the Coronavirus pandemic, they invited only close family members and provided guests with safety protocols before and during the wedding. Instead of wearing his uniform, our former military groom chose a kilt instead.

Katie Martin from Elegance and Simplicity designed this classic bridal bouquet of white cymbidium orchids, blue thistle, white anemones, white roses and greenry.

While her sister had her ceremony closer to the deck of the house, our bride chose the mature trees as the backdrop for her wedding ceremony.

Nothing compares to the pure joy when you are pronounced as a married couple!

Our hosts provided guests with blankets to keep warm on this October day.

The bride’s father surprised his daughter with the sounds of a bagpiper who played while guests were taking their seats for the ceremony and for the recessional.

This classic combination of navy blue, white and gold created a timeless and elegant style for dinner under a tent.

For the floral centerpieces, Katie Martin from Elegance and Simplicity used a white cylinder vase filled with similar flowers to the bridal bouquet but we added more blue with the blue delphinium.

For the avid golfers, this cake topper is just right.

Intimate Wedding at Ritz-Carlton Georgetown Washington, DC

With Covid-19 causing governments to put restrictions on gatherings, we now need to reexamine what wedding celebrations will look like, at least for the immediate future. The good news is that couples can still get married and their marriage can still begin with a joyous occasion no matter the size or format. Quite a few of our past couples have opted for more intimate weddings, including this couple. I would define intimate weddings as having less than 80 guests. They are no less special, meaningful or fun. We thoroughly enjoyed planning this wedding at Holy Trinity and at The Ritz-Carlton Georgetown in Washington, DC. All photos by Bee Two Sweet Photography
