Timeless Mayflower Hotel Washington DC Wedding

There is a reason I never leave home without my business cards because you never know where you might meet your next client. How about at a wine dinner? Our bride and groom just happen to sit next to my husband and I at a wine dinner with Barboursville Winery at Lyon Hall restaurant in Arlington, VA. While we were chatting over dinner, I find out they got engaged the week before. The bride asked for me card and I handed her one not thinking they would ever contact me, but they did and the rest is history. I was delighted to coordinate their black-tie wedding at the historic Mayflower Hotel in Washington, DC. All photos by Jen Cody

Chic Black and White Wedding at Ronald Reagan Building

In honor of their anniversary, we are sharing more photographs of this modern yet vintage spring wedding at the Ronald Reagan Building International Trade Center in Washington, DC. It was recently featured in the Washingtonian Magazine blog. Things I remember from this wedding:

I am enjoying the return of formal black tie weddings.
I used fashion tape for the first time on a groom’s shirt.
Weddings often occur while other more important things in life are also happening.
Weddings bring together the most important people in your life.

Their black and white color scheme was inspired by the black and white tiles of the W Hotel.

I loved the visual impact of the tall arrangements using Baby’s Breath, especially in a room with tall ceilings. You need a lot of Baby’s Breath to make such a strong statement.

Although I got a sneak peek while the groom and groomsmen were getting ready, the surprised dance they performed for the bride was even better than I had imagined!

Vietnamese Fusion Wedding in Washington DC

The dramatic grand staircase on the west entrance of the Carnegie Institute provides a stunning backdrop with candlelight.

In honor of our client’s anniversary, let’s take a look back at this Spring Vietnamese fusion wedding. We enjoyed weaving in the different cultural traditions while planning this wedding. The day began with the Vietnamese ceremony in the morning held at the couple’s home, including a traditional preparation and exchange of gifts between the families that included a whole roast pig. The bride and bridesmaids wore traditional Vietnamese Ao Dai dress. A second civil ceremony and reception were held at the Carnegie Institution for Science in Washington, DC in the afternoon. The ceremony included a Scottish handfasting ceremony of 13 ribbons, each symbolizing a different facet of their union, acknowledging the groom’s heritage. All photos: Documentary Associates

What a photo! These are the cutest yellow dresses for the flower girls, perfect for a spring wedding.

While most ceremonies are held in the Rotunda, this wedding ceremony was held in the Ballroom with the drama of the bronze doors behind the bride as she processed.
