Geek Chic 50th Birthday Party at Hay Adams Hotel

Our client is quite a renaissance man. He considers himself a maker, quite handy with all kinds of projects. While he works in IT, he loves abstract art. Even though he has lived in California for quite a while and is influenced by its sensibilities, he wanted something refined in Washington, DC where he grew up, to celebrate his milestone 50th birthday party. He also wanted an activity that was as inclusive as possible for his guests to participate. We planned a delicious brunch at the Top of the Hay at the Hay Adams Hotel in Washington, DC, followed by a fun mosaic tiling activity. Guests got to make coasters and photo frames with an assortment of mosaic tiles as a keepsake, but also contribute to a large piece of mosaic art that our client got to keep. I loved the Sahara Chartreuse Tablecloth from DC Rental with its abstract vibe. Because the hotel’s in-house chairs had a strong yellowish green tone, it was not easy finding a tablecloth that coordinated well with it.

Jenlene from Mizz Mozaic displayed an array of colored tiles in various shapes for guests to choose from.

This was the group project where guests could select a tile to contribute to the piece and then signed their name as a keepsake to the birthday boy. He will later add twinkling lights where the wood pegs are located and display it in his yard.

Jazz trio from Lucy Black Entertainment created a classy atmosphere.

Corporate Winter Events and Holiday Parties Design Ideas

Planning for corporate winter events and holiday parties in the Washington, DC area kick into high gear early Fall. Our corporate clients often ask for designs that do not have an overly Christmas feel of reds and greens, and to stay religiously neutral. Here are two design ideas we came up with recently. For both designs, we used the same festive and winter inspired floral arrangements created by Petals Edge Floral Design, the same chair, and the same stationery. Design #1 – Black and White

With this first design, I wanted show that a timeless combination of black and white can have a modern, sophisticated, winter, and festive feel by adding fun touches. To start, we centered the faux black slate table with a white faux fur table runner, topped with floral arrangements in modern silver cubes evenly distributed along the length of the table. Each place setting had a silver snowflake to add to the winter feel.

Design #2 – Luscious Velvet

Winter is the only season where we can use velvet tablecloths for its rich texture. I love using purple in the winter time for its deep vibrant tones without it being predictable. For a festive touch, we needed some sparkle from this stunning silver Pearl Glass Charger plate and silver flatware. To change things up, we pushed the same floral arrangements together to give an illusion that they are one long arrangement in the center of the table. The purple silk napkins provided a different texture also.

Marketing Luncheon for Caboose Brewing Company

To showcase its private dining capabilities, we planned a beer-inspired marketing luncheon event for Caboose Brewing Company in Vienna, Virginia in the spring. All photos by Event Accomplished.

Incorporate stalks of wheat, Petals Edge Floral Design of Alexandria, Virginia, created cheerful floral arrangements.

Serving as place cards, we created custom beverage coasters personalized to each attendee. Some guests had their favorite beers listed, while others had the name of a fictitious beer named after their children, dog, or personality. All designed by Emily Baird Design.
